What to expect
Meet your guidein the morning at your hotel/accomodation, pick up service is offered. Then start your journey towards the Fagaras Mountains, the South side of the Carpathians,  the highest and some of the most beautiful mountains in Romania, also reffeared as the Transylvanian Alps. First stop,after less than 2 hours will be in the town of Curtea de Arges, the former capital of Wallachia. Here we will visit one of the most remarkable monasteries in Romania.
This monastery is famous for two reasons:
  • the beautiful,  original architecture making it unique in the whole Ortodoxy world
  • Its historical importance as royal Tomb, the whole royal family of Romania being buried here.
Every year thousands of tourists and pilgrims come here, making it one of the most visited sites in the south Romania. Continuing  the tour to the northern regions of Arges Country, you will stop by the foot of Poenari Citadel, the fortress that became famous thanks to Dracula’s Legend. From this point, you will be stepping into the marvelous landscape of the mountains: Transfagarasan road starts ! Being the second-highest road in Romania, Transfagarasan is considered by  many people this is Romania’s most beautiful road, few years ago it was named by Top Gear “The Best Road in the World”! The road reaches its highest point of 2034 m above sea level at the Balea Lake, after passing by Romania’s longest road tunnel, the Capra Tunnel. Here, at Balea Lake you will have an hour and a half break to enjoy the beauty of this place.
There are  numerous possibilities to spend a great time, such us:
  • Cable car trip between Balea Lake and Balea Waterfall
  • Lunch in one of the chalets or picnic
  • Hike around this beautiful area
With our batteries full charged you will be driven back to Bucharest, for a 3,5 hours drive back.
